Kenol town, which is in Kenya’s Murang’a County, is well-known for being a tranquil urban hub that acts as a doorway to the country’s eastern and central areas. The calm that once pervaded this busy town has given way to an increase of Insecurity in recent months. Reports of violent crimes—such as robberies, assaults, and even fatalities—have become frighteningly frequent, residents are becoming more and more afraid.

Many people in the town have had to change their habits due to fear. Businesses that used to stay open late have shortened their hours of operation due to concerns about robbery.

People fear going for nighttime walks by themselves, and there are fewer public events because of worries about safety.

Increase of Crime in Kenol has seen individuals being attacked both during the night, with some suffering severe injuries or even losing their lives/properties as a result.

It seems that criminal gangs are preying on gullible people with impunity. In addition to the fact that the majority of victims are frequently targeted for their belongings, including money, cell phones, and other items, there is growing concern regarding gender-based violence, with women and children being especially vulnerable.

The latest case involved a young man who was reporting for duties in the morning where he was attacked and was badly assaulted.

Residents in Kenol Town Call for Better Infrastrure to Ease Crime

Many of these incidents, according to locals, happen poorly lit areas. Due to the town’s fast development and overpopulation, criminal elements have the ideal conditions to flourish.

Previously safe public areas are now thought to be hubs for criminal activity. Particularly after dark, the town’s bus stops, markets, and even residential neighborhoods have turned into dangerous zones.
