Teacher Trainer – Short Term Contract

SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Below are some specific areas of contribution:

  • Participate in facilitating Teacher Continuous Professional Development (TCPD) courses to participating pre-primary teachers.
  • Participate in meetings with ECD County Government Officials and document the outcomes of the meetings for action and follow-up.
  • Participate in planning and reflection sessions and document key outcomes and next steps.
  • Participate in support and mentorship for the ECD teachers to ensure effective classroom practice and lesson delivery.
  • Support in the re-organization of the organization key training sections i.e. Model Classroom and notice board.
  • Support in review and updating of relevant teacher training content/manuals as per the guidance from your supervisor as and when required.
  • Support in developing, review and updating of relevant monitoring and evaluation tools as and when required.
  • Participate in staff monthly and quarterly review meetings.
  • Compile and share activity reports for all activities undertaken during the period of engagement, including end of internship report.
  • Perform any other duty that may be assigned to you by your supervisor and or by the Programme Director.

The requirements

Qualifications and competencies

  • Minimum Degree in a relevant discipline, such as education, early childhood education, community development, social sciences, Monitoring and Evaluation, IT and Communications from a recognized local University.
  • Practical experience in the area of internship applied for i.e. facilitating training and mentoring sessions for pre-primary schoolteachers, ECD Officers, caregivers, community representatives and other stakeholders in early childhood education and care contexts will be an added advantage.
  • Experience in IT and Communications will be highly preferred.
  • Experience in contributing to developing and reviewing key training resources taking into account stakeholder needs and aspirations for development will be an added advantage.
  • Demonstrate experience with compiling results-based reports and timely sharing.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills in English and Kiswahili is required.
  • Excellent proficiency in the use of Ms. Office applications, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Highly organized, self-driven, visionary and able to work under minimal supervision.
  • Good analytical, negotiation and problem-solving skills.

Summary Of Responsibilities

  • Support the M&E Officer in day-to-day data management aspects including data collection, entry, analysis and reporting.
  • With guidance from the M&E Officer manage organization data sets using relevant organization data management applications including Excel and Access.
  • Support the Graduate Association to manage Association data for community schools, caregivers, teachers, children e.t.c.
  • Support the M&E Officer to conduct mapping, needs assessments, rapid surveys and action research.
  • Support in conducting regular programme reviews through tracking work plan implementation.
  • Participate in field monitoring and evaluation activities.

  • Participate in facilitating design workshops and other capacity strengthening sessions geared towards supporting participating established design teams to practically implement their innovations, particularly, through the Human Centred Design (HCD) approaches.
  • Participate in planning, support, and mentorship for the design teams including caregivers, Cluster Facilitators, Community Health Workers (CHWs0, ECD teachers, community leaders engaged in the HCD course to ensure effective implementation of the Play & Learn initiatives and document key learnings.
  • Participate in conducting reflection meetings with caregivers, ECD teachers and ECD Officers and document key reflections and action items.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST (LOCUM)

Reporting to the Rehabilitation Services Manager, the successful candidate will work with patients to develop, recover, or maintain the daily living activities and work skills of people with physical, mental, or developmental conditions. He/she will also be expected to be an active member of the health care team in the Hospital and should have excellent public relations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assessment of client’s aspects of performance to support engagement in occupations that affect health, well-being, and life quality.
  • Apply interventions to maximize safety and independence performance in activities of daily living and instrumental activities of daily living of the client.
  • Teach clients new ways of approaching tasks and educate them on how to break down activities into achievable components.
  • Recommend and fabricate adaptive equipment and train in its use.

The requirements

  • Minimum Diploma in Occupational Therapy from a recognized / certified institution.
  • BSC in occupational therapy will be an added advantage.
  • Must be registered with KOTA (Kenya Occupational Therapist Association).
  • At least one year work experience after three months period of internship.
  • Any training in the areas that fall under rehabilitation will be an added advantage.

REHABILITATION SERVICES MANAGER
Reporting to the Clinical Support Services Manager and the Medical Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for provision of quality and efficient Rehabilitation  services (physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, neurophysiotherapy, etc.) to meet the patient’s rehabilitation demands in both inpatient and outpatient settings and ensure the smooth running of physiotherapy services in the hospital and outreach centers including working on the expansion of the physiotherapy services in the Hospital and its clusters.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensuring effective and efficient management of Rehabilitative Physiotherapy & related services (Occupational therapy, Speech Therapy, Neurophysiotherapy, etc.) in the hospital and cluster by:

  • Coordinating, collating, and reporting on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Developing, implementing, monitoring, evaluating, and reporting on:

(i). Business Performance strategies and outcomes
(ii). Quality Improvement & Patient Safety strategies and outcomes.
(iii). Budgets (CAPEX, operational and staffing budgets), Costs and Sustainability strategies
(iv). Policies, guidelines, and processes reviews
(v). Service Excellence
(vi) Growth & services expansion

  • Allocating duties and responsibilities and monitoring timely service delivery for rehabilitation services.
  • Participating in recruitment, orientation, progressive capacity building and performance management of staff.

The requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy or Higher Diploma in Physiotherapy with any of the specialties (OMT, Cardiopulmonary, Lymphedema etc.) from a recognized/certified institution.
  • Additional trainings in Rehabilitative services will be an added advantage.
  • A minimum of three years of management/leadership experience
  • Registration/Licensure as a professional with Physiotherapy Council of Kenya

Academy Fellows

The Academy Fellow will live in an apartment and serve the student residential programme as a Residential Parent promoting community life  and are responsible for the follow aspects of student and academic life.

  • While the Academy Fellow does not teach, s/he will be scheduled to have some contact with classes, to engage fully with the learning and teaching of the Academy so that he/she can support students with additional tutoring after school hours and during residential study time.  This will be approximately 10 hours a week (supporting 2 or 3 classes in a subject of the fellow/intern’s choice. Maths and Science are the areas of most need along with English as an Additional Language for our students who join on the Talent Identification Programme from marginalised communities in Kenya.)
  • Developing and delivering the Service- Learning Programme which takes place every week with Years 6-10. This is a 10 hour a week commitment and requires planning the activities, working with community partners, delivering the programme to. Students and colleagues and supporting individual groups as they develop and implement their projects.
  • Academy Fellows play a major role as Residential Parents in guiding residential students in their personal and academic goals and as Mentors for a small group of students to support them academically and socially. As residential parents fellows are expected to develop close relationships with their dorm sons/daughters by checking in with them frequently as well as supervising in an official capacity twice a week and one weekend in three.
  • Academy Fellows are expected to actively contribute to the co-curricular programme in some way such as coaching athletic teams, providing music lessons or running clubs such as gardening, cooking, debating, MUN, TedX, guiding students interested in applying to top international universities with SAT preparation, reading essays personal statements etc
  • Academy fellows will be asked to chaperoning off-campus residential and day trips, including to places of worship

The requirements

  • A Bachelors Degree with excellent academic achievement and a range of interests
  • A  record of significant involvement in residential, student leadership, music, athletic and / or community service during university.
  • Genuine interest in and commitment to the mission of the Aga Khan Academies: to influence young people to become future leaders in the developing world.
