POSITION

The Kenyan Section of the International Commission of Jurists is looking to fill the position of Executive Director. This is a full-time position, and the job holder will be answerable to the Governing Council.

JOB BRIEF

The position entails Planning, organization, and directing the organization’s operations and programs. The job holder will provide strategic direction to the organization while leading a professional and support staff team to achieve the Strategic goals. The job holder will report to the ICJ Kenya Governing Council and work with funding partners, government and other civil society actors to ensure that ICJ Kenya’s revenues grow and remain relevant, credible, and financially stable, achieving the Vision and mission while retaining a competent and motivated team to deliver results.

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership:

•Have overall responsibility for the implementation of the organization’s mandate through its Strategic Plan.

• Lead a team of professional and support staff at the ICJ Kenya and oversee the coordination of programme activities for growth and the achievement of the desired results and impact

• Responsible for the execution of ICJ Kenya’s policies, procedures and internal controls and • support compliance with donor procedures and requirements; Council and Member support • Act as the Secretary to the Council of ICJ Kenya.

• Initiate policy proposals for consideration by Council; • Promote activities that will engage the membership of ICJ Kenya; Resource Mobilization.

• Lead in the Oversight of the Resource Mobilization Strategy (RMS), ensuring its full implementation, including frequent reviews on the progress of implementation.

• Spearhead innovative resource mobilization strategies and activities that will be geared toward diversifying and deepening ICJ Kenya’s donor base.

• Lead in the new frontiers, also referred to as the other sources of income (Own generated funds and Local fundraising) as stipulated in the RMS.

• Identify and Initiate staff capacity-building activities to strengthen the team’s fundraising skills. Partnerships and Networking.

• Develop and maintain relationships with all stakeholders, including funding partners, implementing partners, government, private sector, beneficiaries, and other stakeholders.

• Ensure all legal and contractual obligations of ICJ Kenya and other partners are fulfilled;.

• Participate in the representation of ICJ Kenya in its relations with the government, international agencies, donors, other NGOs, and the general public; Communication and Brand Visibility.

• Provide leadership to ICJ Kenya in establishing and maintaining proper institutional communication procedures.

• Ensure that a strong brand and profile of ICJ Kenya is maintained and the organization remains credible.

• In collaboration with the Chairperson of the Council of ICJ-K, act as the official spokesman and PR person of ICJ Kenya (This role is also performed by the Chairperson and the Council.).

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Education:

• Master’s Degree in Human Rights/ Social Science/ MBA

• Bachelor of Laws Degree and Advocate of the High Court of Kenya. Knowledge and Experience.

• The candidate should possess at least 15 years post admission experience and 10 years of working experience, including strategic leadership skills, people management skills, fundraising, and networking.

• Must possess a deep understanding of the governance context and human rights situation in Kenya, regionally around Africa and globally.

• The candidate must possess strong organizational capabilities, including providing leadership on programme development, task facilitation, Planning and delegation.

• The candidate should possess Strong resource mobilization knowledge and skills to ensure the financial growth and sustainability of the organization.

• Demonstrable previous managerial experience at the policy level is necessary.

• Excellent writing skills.

• The candidate must be proactive and possess the skills to coach and motivate both professional and support staff to achieve the organizational strategic goals.

• The candidate must have the ability to represent ICJ Kenya in a variety of situations from the grassroots to high levels and must possess good diplomatic and communications skills.

LANGUAGES:

• Fluency in English and Swahili is required.
