Position Overview: 

We seek a dynamic and visionary Communications and Advocacy Manager at Strategies for Northern Development (SND) to elevate SND’s visibility, lead impactful storytelling, and spearhead our communication strategies. This role will shape SND’s narrative, advocating for our mission and advancing policy influence through a blend of digital media, data insights, and collaborative partnerships.

Key Responsibilities:

  1.  Visibility and Brand Development

– Develop and implement a robust, multi-tiered visibility strategy to elevate SND’s profile at local, national, regional, and international levels.

– Spearhead comprehensive branding efforts to position SND as a leading organization, communicating our mission, impact, and value proposition effectively.

  1. Social Media and Digital Transformation
  • Oversee and expand SND’s social media presence with engaging, mission-driven content that highlights our values, projects, and achievements.
  • Lead digital transformation initiatives to ensure a dynamic, accessible online presence that aligns with SND’s strategic goals and resonates with diverse audiences.
  1. Advocacy and Stakeholder Engagement
  • Design and execute targeted advocacy strategies to spotlight key issues and amplify the voices of the communities we serve.
  • Build and nurture strong relationships with stakeholders, policymakers, and media outlets to broaden SND’s advocacy impact and influence.
  1. Website Management and Content Updates
  • Ensure SND’s website reflects the latest organizational developments and serves as an interactive engagement platform, maintaining regular updates and rigorous security.
  • Collaborate with the ICT and Data Protection Manager to integrate data security protocols into website management for a secure, trustworthy digital space.
  1. Storytelling, Impact Documentation, and Photography
  • Develop compelling narratives, videos, and documentaries that showcase SND’s community impact, drawing audiences into our mission.
  • Capture high-quality field photography that visually tells the story of SND’s work, enhancing the authenticity and appeal of our digital content.
  1. Publications and Knowledge Management
  • Lead the creation of impactful publications, including SND’s annual reports, quarterly bulletins, and other documents that highlight our successes and insights.
  • Establish knowledge management systems to support both internal and external communications, ensuring organized, accessible, and up-to-date information.

 Project Team and Sectoral Support

  • Collaborate closely with project teams to create customized communication materials that align with sector-specific goals and enhance project visibility.
  • Actively support SND’s presence and reputation across various sectors, maintaining high visibility standards for the organization.
  1. Communication Strategy and Media Relations
  • Develop and execute a strategic communications plan focused on visibility, advocacy, and media engagement to elevate SND’s voice and impact.
  • Serve as SND’s primary media contact, fostering partnerships that enhance the organization’s reach, credibility, and brand recognition.
  1. Fundraising and Donor Engagement
  • Partner with the fundraising team to produce compelling materials for donor proposals, events, and campaigns, strengthening appeal and engagement.
  • Cultivate and sustain donor relationships by sharing impactful stories that underscore SND’s value and the transformative impact of their support.
  1. Field-Based Engagement and Collaboration
  • Regularly visit field locations across Marsabit, Isiolo, Samburu, and Ethiopia, capturing stories, supporting field teams, and ensuring alignment with SND’s strategic vision.
  • Build cohesive connections with field teams to promote consistent communication, collaboration, and adherence to SND’s goals and standards across all locations.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • At least five years of experience in communications or advocacy, with a record of success in impactful campaigns.
  • Demonstrated expertise in social media management, digital transformation, and storytelling.
  • Proficiency in multimedia production, photography, and analyticsbased content strategy.
  • Proven experience in stakeholder engagement, with a focus on datadriven advocacy.
  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity to local contexts in Northern Kenya and Southern Ethiopia.
