Senior Software Engineer

About the role

The Senior Software Engineer will play a critical role in helping us build our technological future as we strive to improve internal processes and better serve our customers and partners. The role sits within our “Service Center” team, supporting the operations and growth of multiple country offices. The Senior Software Engineer will work with the leadership across technology, insurance operations, customer operations, partnerships management, and business development to gather requirements, implement solutions, communicate project statuses, and make proposals.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, document, and implement solutions to users’ needs and requirements.
  • Maintain and manage existing source code and systems.
  • Develop unit and integration tests.
  • Lead a team of software engineers and mentor them to facilitate skill/knowledge development through advice, coaching, and training opportunities.
  • Proactively search for and fix bugs.
  • Perform code reviews.
  • Design and develop logical and physical data models that meet application requirements.
  • Deploying software tools, processes, and metrics.
  • Providing technological support to the rest of the team.
  • Create technical documentation for internal and external use.
  • Investigating and using new technologies where relevant.

  • 7+ years of professional experience in a similar function.
  • Start-up or entrepreneurial experience is highly desired.
  • Hands-on programming experience developing in Java (Spring Boot)and Javascript (ReactJS, Vue or AngularJS).
  • In-depth knowledge of relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, MySQL).
  • Bachelor/Undergraduate degree with excellent grades.
  • Expert knowledge of algorithms and data structures.
  • Hands-on experience in system and feature design.
  • Experience using system monitoring tools and automated testing frameworks.
  • Strong communication skills, especially in communicating paths to solve problems.

Operations Lead – Policy Administration

About the Role

Operations Lead – Policy administration is a role within our Insurance Operations Division tasked with the supervision of the team and activities of the Policy Administration team. The role reports to the Head of Insurance Operations and will lead a team of policy administration associates and senior associates.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Assign duties to the Policy Administration unit within the Insurance Operations division.
  • Develop and implement SLAs for Policy administration including team turnaround times for the team, performance metrics, and data entry standards.
  • Ensure adherence to insurance policy creation guidelines, to make sure 100% correct data is fed into our Insurance CRM.
  • Support the Head of Insurance Operations with reviewing Insurance contracts to ensure Policy Administration agreements align well for Turaco and our partners.
  • Frequent training and updating the team on policy administration changes, and or changes to our Insurance CRM that affect policy administration.
  • Organizing the policy Admin team to cover the data upload needs for 4 markets; Kenya, Uganda, Ghana and Nigeria.

Key Deliverables

  • Consistent TATs for policy administration. Policy Administration is a key step in the Insurance journey at Turaco. Adhering to TATs at this stage ensures our products can reach customers on time and with little to no errors/issues.
  • Team Performance Management: You will own the performance of the policy administration team including their productivity, efficiency, and quality metrics.
  • 100% Policy administration data accuracy; Insurance policy data is paramount to other functions like accurate claims payment, premium pricing, and customer support.

  • Bachelor’s degree qualification required. Background in insurance is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office Tools, Insurance CRMs, and Data Analysis tools.

Graphic Designer

About the Role

We are looking for a Graphic Designer to join our growing Marketing & Customer Experience team. This is an exciting opportunity to help us build our brand identity with visual storytelling that engages and inspires our audience. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in graphic design, preferably gained through working in an agency environment, and will possess a strong portfolio demonstrating their expertise.

Key roles and responsibilities:

  • Design and develop graphic design outputs for our social media such as motion graphics, visuals, etc to support copy.
  • Partner marketing design support such as visualization of reports, mood boards, dashboards, and easy-to-digest creative materials to partners as needed/requested.
  • Design direct marketing materials required for launch, in partner branding. These include: Fliers, posters, cheat sheets, etc.
  • Support internal marketing comms with materials as needed.
  • Design company assets such as merchandise, deck templates, banners, signage, etc as needed.
  • Collaborate with product management and engineering teams to define and implement innovative solutions for the product direction, visuals, and experience for our internal Insurance management system (TACO).

You will:

  • Own and lead creative projects from ideation through to production.
  • Follow established brand guidelines and deliver creative projects on time across multiple stakeholders.
  • Manage multiple projects while ensuring deliverables are on a set timeline.
  • Constantly bring new design ideas to the table that will help achieve brand & performance objectives.
  • Work with the team to create templates for different types of creative assets, and maintain the design language consistency at all times.
  • Ensure every creative asset meets its functional (readability, brand visibility, visual appeal, etc) and performance objectives (Engagement, Reach, Conversion, etc).

Key Qualifications & Your Profile:

  • 2-4 years of experience in Design. Experience serving both marketing/commercial and user design needs is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of multiple design tools such as; Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, AfterEffects, Figma, InVision, and more.
  • Proficient in video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro) for creating and editing social media video.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills with internal and external stakeholders.
  • A willingness to roll up one’s sleeves and dig into details to solve problems and tackle hands-on work.
  • Professional qualifications in Design, the Arts, Digital Media, or their equivalents.

Other Requirements

  • A strong portfolio showcasing a range of design projects, including marketing materials, social media graphics, video editing samples, and UX/UI designs. Please share a link to your portfolio.
  • Proven experience managing multiple clients and projects simultaneously, working in a design agency environment is an added advantage.
