Innovation Fellowship

We offer a unique 12-month innovation fellowship program for college graduates to work on well-vetted ideas with like-minded peers under the guidance of an experienced leadership team and mentor network with the goal to expand entrepreneur capacity while developing fundamentally sound early-stage startups.

Marketing Fellow

Responsibilities:

  • Support brand and product message development: Assist in developing brand messages and value propositions that effectively communicate the company’s offerings to target audiences.
  • Assist in brand storytelling strategy: Contribute to the implementation of the brand storytelling strategy by conducting research, providing input, and supporting the execution of storytelling initiatives.
  • Aid in creating marketing materials: Collaborate with the design team and assist in the creation of marketing materials such as sales decks, brochures, flyers, posters, videos, presentations, and website pages.
  • Assist in product marketing content creation: Work closely with the marketing team to assist in creating relevant content such as blogs, articles, videos, and testimonials that educate and engage customers.
  • Support industry marketing events: Assist in organizing industry marketing events such as webinars, entrepreneurship events, and seminars, and provide support during these events to help generate leads for the sales funnel.
  • Conduct market research: Assist in conducting market research to gather insights, evaluate opportunities, and monitor industry trends and developments.
  • Other marketing support: Provide support in various marketing activities as needed, including administrative tasks, data entry, and coordination of marketing projects.

Key Skills:

  • Strong communication skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to assist in crafting effective marketing messages and content.
  • Detail-oriented: Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy and quality in marketing materials and content creation.
  • Collaborative mindset: Ability to work well in an agile team environment, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and contribute ideas and suggestions.

Experience:

  • Marketing background (preferred): While extensive prior marketing experience is not required, a basic understanding of marketing principles or coursework in marketing-related subjects would be beneficial.
  • Passion for marketing: An enthusiasm for marketing and a desire to learn and contribute to marketing initiatives.
  • Educational background: Recent graduate or awaiting graduation in marketing, communications, business, or a related field

Sales Development Representative (SDR)

Key Responsibilities

List Building and Prospecting:

  • Conduct thorough research to identify and build lists of potential clients within the African diaspora.
  • Utilize various tools and databases to gather relevant information on prospects.
  • Maintain and update the CRM system with accurate prospect information.

Outreach and Lead Generation:

  • Initiate contact with potential clients through multiple channels (email, phone, social media, etc.).
  • Craft personalized and compelling outreach messages to engage prospects.
  • Qualify leads based on established criteria and schedule appointments for senior sales team members.

Market Research and Insights:

  • Stay informed about African real estate markets and trends.
  • Gather intelligence on competitor activities and market dynamics.
  • Provide regular reports on market insights and prospecting activities.

Pipeline Management:

  • Track and manage your sales pipeline, ensuring timely follow-ups and progression of leads.
  • Collaborate with the sales team to ensure smooth handover of qualified leads.

Client Education:

  • Educate prospects on the African property market and Roots Africa’s unique value proposition.
  • Address initial queries and concerns, providing basic information about our services and processes.

Performance Tracking and Reporting:

  • Meet or exceed monthly targets for qualified leads and appointments set.
  • Maintain detailed records of all prospecting activities and outcomes.
  • Participate in regular team meetings to share insights and best practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
  • 3 to 6 months of experience in sales, preferably in real estate or a related industry.
  • Strong understanding of the African diaspora community and its needs.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in CRM software and sales prospecting tools.
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and ability to work independently.
  • Fluency in English; additional African languages are a plus.

Customer Success Fellow

Key Responsibilities:

Customer Support and Engagement

  • Assist in handling customer inquiries and providing first-level support under the guidance of the Relationship Manager.
  • Help manage communication channels for customer support and information sharing.
  • Participate in identifying and resolving customer issues, collaborating with senior team members and other departments.
  • Shadow customer calls and learn to provide relevant support, including user guidance and issue escalation.

User Research and Feedback

  • Support the conduction of user research by helping draft research questions and assisting with user interviews.
  • Assist in analyzing customer feedback and presenting insights to the team.
  • Help monitor customer usage patterns and contribute to discussions on how to maximize value for users.

Product and Process Improvement

  • Participate in team meetings to learn about product development and customer success strategies.
  • Assist in documenting customer success processes and suggesting improvements.
  • Help compile and organize user research findings for presentation to stakeholders.

Business Development Support

  • Assist in outreach activities to potential new users, learning how to pitch Shukran and conduct initial user research.
  • Support the SACCO Customer Success Manager in the process of onboarding service workers onto the SACCO through the app.

Learning and Development

  • Actively learn about industry trends and best practices in customer success, particularly in fintech and the hospitality sector.
  • Participate in training sessions and workshops to develop skills relevant to customer success and fintech operations.

Key Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a bachelor’s degree in Business, Communications, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in fintech, customer service, and the hospitality industry.
  • Excellent communication skills in English and Swahili; additional local languages are a plus.
  • Basic analytical skills and eagerness to learn data interpretation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and willingness to learn CRM and customer support tools.
  • Proactive attitude with a strong desire to learn and grow in a fast-paced environment.
