Internship Opportunities at Office of the Ombudsman: The Commission On Administrative Justice-Office Of The Ombudsman, Is A Constitutional Commission Established Under Article 59(4) Of The Constitution, And The Commission On Administrative Justice Act, 2011. The Mandate Of Office Of The Ombudsman Is Two-Fold, And Extends To Both National And County Governments. Firstly, The Commission Has The Mandate Of Tackling Maladministration (Improper Administration) In The Public Sector. In This Regard, The Commission Is Empowered To, Among Other Things, Investigate Complaints Of Delay, Abuse Of Power, Unfair Treatment, Manifest Injustice Or Discourtesy. Secondly, The Commission Has The Mandate Of Overseeing And Enforcing The Implementation Of The Access To Information Act, 2016.

Legal Intern – Access To Information

Internship Opportunities at Office of the Ombudsman

Duties and responsibilities for this position will entail:

  • Assist in receiving and Reviewing applications on Access to Information
  • Assist in conducting inquiries into alleged violations of the ATI Act
  • Providing support during ATI hearings
  • Assist in undertaking onsite inspections and relevant information inventories
  • Assist in preparing summons, orders and other legal instruments under ATI Act
  • Assist in undertaking relevant researches aimed at developing repository on ATI determinations, advisories and case law
  • Participating in development of regulatory framework on ATI Act including relevant regulations, policies, guidelines, rules, model laws
  • Assist in providing technical support to public entities and private bodies on implementation of the ATI Act through awareness, sensitization, training and guidance
  • Assist in receiving and assessing public entities’ reports on ATI implementation
  • Participating in preparation of relevant guidance on ATI including advisories
  • Any other duty assigned by the Commission from time to time

JOB SPECIFICATION

Finance & Accounts Intern

Duties and responsibilities for this position will entail:

  • Assisting in posting of banking payments into accounting software
  • Assist in handling daily transactions for petty cash
  • Assist in reconciling weekly cash transactions
  • Assist in preparing payment transactions
  • Assist in preparing bank transfers for payment
  • Assist in reconciling supplier statements as received
  • Assist in verifying authorizations of payments as per the Commission authorized sign off limits

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Driving assigned vehicle as authorised;
  • Detecting and reporting vehicle defects on time;
  • Ensuring vehicle cleanliness;
  • Ensuring routine service and maintenance of the vehicle;
  • Ensuring security and safety of the vehicle, passengers and goods on and off the road;
  • Maintaining daily work ticket;
  • Carrying out routine checks on vehicle’s cooling, oil, electrical and brake systems and tyre pressure;
  • Timely reporting of malfunction and defects of assigned motor vehicle
    Ensuring compliance with the traffic laws and rules.
  • Any other duty as may be assigned from time to time.

JOB SPECIFICATION

For appointment to this grade, an officer must have: –

  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade D or its equivalent;
  • Valid Class BCE Driving License free from any endorsement;
  • Occupational Trade Test Grade II & I for drivers;
  • Passed Suitability Test for drivers;
  • First Aid Certificate Course lasting not less than one (1) week from St. John Ambulance or Kenya Institute of Highways and Building Technology (KIHBIT) or any other recognized institution;
  • Certificate of good conduct;
  • Must have 3 years related experience;
  • Attended a refresher course for drivers lasting not less than one (1) week within the last three (3) years at Kenya Institute of Highway and Building Technology (KIHBIT) or any other recognised institution, and

  • Issuing and receiving books;
  • Compiling statistics of borrowed books;
  • Assisting users to track reading materials through relevant library system;
  • Handling general enquiries;
  • Registering new library users;
  • Searching the database;
  • Sending reminder notices for overdue publications;
  • Updating the catalogue;
  • Shelving new and returned books;
  • Ensuring that shelves are tidy, and publications are filed in their right places;
  • Assisting users in searching the database and retrieving information from the library;
  • Grouping information materials accordingly through classification and cataloguing systems;
  • Manning the circulation area; and.
