Position summary

The  Communications Officer at Akiba Mashinani Trust (AMT) will lead AMT’s communications strategy, driving storytelling, digital engagement, media relations, and knowledge dissemination. The role translates technical research, community experiences, and policy processes into compelling, accessible communication products that build AMT’s visibility and public profile. The officer will also provide strategic support to coalition communications, advocacy campaigns, and public engagement efforts that advance inclusive urban reform. Key responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of AMT’s communication strategy and strengthen institutional visibility.
  • Develop communication products including blogs, policy briefs, newsletters, infographics, social media content, short videos, and annual reports.
  • Manage AMT’s website and social media platforms, including content oversight and performance monitoring to ensure strong, consistent, and engaging digital presence that enhances organizational visibility and impact.
  • Recruit, train, and coordinate community documenters to capture programme activities and impact stories.
  • Translate technical research, project outcomes, and community evidence into accessible public and policy communication materials.
  • Design and implement strategic media engagement and advocacy communication campaigns.
  • Support coalition communication, stakeholder engagement and public forums.
  • Develop and maintain a cloud-based archive for communication and knowledge products.
  • Review and strengthen AMT branding materials and organizational communication templates.
  • Support fundraising and donor engagement through compelling communication materials.

Qualifications and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Development Studies, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in communications, advocacy, media, or development communication.
  • Strong writing, editing, storytelling, and digital communication skills.
  • Experience working with communities, coalitions, advocacy initiatives, or development programmes.
  • Demonstrated experience in content creation, media engagement, and translating technical information for wider audiences.
