Volunteer Opportinities at Amnesty International Kenya
JOB PURPOSE
The Amnesty Outreach Coordinator is a volunteer who supports circles of conscience in designing, implementing, and monitoring the implementation of activities. The outreach coordinator – Volunteer Opportinities at Amnesty International Kenya – supports activism communities with convening, implementation, documentation & monitoring while working closely with the Movement Building team at Amnesty International Kenya and the activism communities.
They serve as a bridge between Amnesty Kenya and the grassroots community, which is critical in strengthening response at the grassroots level.
We are specifically recruiting 2 Outreach Coordinators who will support COCs in the following regions:
- Outreach Coordinators – Nairobi – 2 Positions
- Outreach Coordinators – Kiambu – 2 Positions
- Outreach Coordinators – Nyeri – 2 Positions
- Outreach Coordinators – Kericho – 2 Positions
- Outreach Coordinators – Bomet – 2 Positions
- Outreach Coordinators – Kuresoi – 2 Positions
- Outreach Coordinators – Narok – 2 Positions
Each outreach coordinator will oversee community chapters and university chapters within their respective counties.

All applicants to this position will be required to demonstrate a commitment to Amnesty’s organizational values and vision and the Kenyan Constitution and be familiar with rights-based organizing, citizen empowerment and an anti-discriminatory approach to social justice. In addition, all successful candidates will have demonstrated an ability to work in teams and a proven ability to multi-task and work to deadlines, sometimes under pressure.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Membership recruitment drives and supports the development and maintenance of the COC membership database.
- Establishing and coordinating Circles of Conscience.
- Support the mobilization activities for members of circles of conscience.
- Ensure COCs comply with AIK institutional guidelines.
- Develop and submit reports of monthly activities done by Circles of Conscience.
- Support implementation and coordination of AIK pillar campaigns in their region.
Qualities
A change-maker with a passion and understanding of human rights who will ensure all Amnesty outreach activities are underpinned by our theory of change by:
- Actively promoting the values and obligations contained in the constitution and international human rights standards and covenants.
- Actively participating and supporting the Movement Building program proactively ensuring rapid response to AIK communities in clubs, university chapters and community chapters.
- Contribute to Amnesty’s outreach events, social and mass media engagement.
- Drive online and off-line mobilization that enables the emergence of active, empowered and ethical membership in clubs, university and community chapters nationally.
- Supporting other Amnesty initiatives nationally, regionally and globally to build comparative understanding and synergies across the Amnesty movement.
WAT DOES SUCCESS LOOK LIKE?
Amnesty Kenya Circles of Conscience grow significantly with members equipped with adequate knowledge, skills and tools to avert human rights violations, develop campaigns, sustain engagement with duty bearers and provide rapid response to human rights violations.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS
- Commitment to Amnesty’s organizational values and vision and the Kenyan Constitution.
- Familiarity with the rights-based approach, social justice, citizen empowerment and gender sensitive and social inclusion approaches.
- Be a member of Amnesty International.
- Resident in one of the listed counties.
- An excellent storyteller.
- Self-motivated with enthusiasm for building and fostering communities and conversations.
- Comfortable leading conversations on social media and traditional media.
- A confident communicator with good analytical, presentation and digital skills.
- Use of digital tools for communication/organizing including Telegram, X, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Signal etc.
- Ability to work in teams and proven ability to meet deadlines.
Duration
This engagement lasts 6 months and is renewable subject to performance, organization’s program objectives and availability of resources.
