Our client, a medium-sized church-based Non-Withdrawable Deposit Taking Savings and Credit Cooperative Society (SACCO) located in Nairobi with approximately 500 active members, is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Accountant.

Reporting to the Manager, the Sacco Accountant at Co-operative Bank of Kenya will be responsible for the day-to-day coordination of the Society’s Finance and Accounting operations.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the manager, prepare and present annual revenue, budgets, financial statements, cash flow projections and all requisite reports
  • Preparation of monthly bank and Mpesa account reconciliations
  • Liaison with both internal and external auditors on audit controls and act on management letters and closure of all audit queries
  • Liaison with service providers to ensure the society’s policies and procedures are adhered to
  • Ensure staff payroll is prepared accurately and timely
  • Ensure tax compliance and all other statutory deductions and filings are made to the required authorities on a timely basis
  • Keeping abreast with changes in financial regulations and legislation
  • Ensuring society’s assets and liabilities are recorded accurately and safeguarded
  • Review and implementation of society’s financial and accounting policies and procedures
  • Providing guidance to the management on financial and accounting matters
  • Ensuring members’ records are always up to date
  • Facilitating team members in handling member queries towards service excellence
  • Ensuring that adequate budgetary controls are in place
  • In collaboration with the manager, advise on prudent financial management and investment
  • Ensure proper reporting systems are in place and adhered to
  • Any other lawful duty as may be assigned by your supervisor from time to time

Key Qualifications & Experience

  • Holder of a Bachelor of Commerce degree or its equivalent from a recognized University
  • Is a CPA (K) or its equivalent and a member in good standing with ICPAK
  • Diploma in Co-operative Management will be an added advantage
  • A minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience
  • Prior experience and exposure in the Sacco sector desired
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Adept in application of enterprise resource planning systems, knowledge of Microsoft Navision Dynamics will be an added advantage
