PURPOSE:

As a Recoveries Officer at APA Insurance, you will ensure effective and efficient management of legal recoveries, provision of legal advisory services, and ensuring effective management of legal and contractual risks subject to the targets given within the year.

KEY PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Keeping recovery records which include:
  • Recovery register
  • Discharge vouchers register
  • Incoming cheques register both from advocates and in-house settlements
  • Monitoring the Recovery register; this includes but is not limited to updating the same and ensuring that all matters appearing are recoverable, and not time-barred.
  • Responding to demand letters to third parties and insurance firms.
  • Drafting legal opinions on settlement proposals on matters in court, swapping, and pursuing the knock-for-knock settlements.
  • Following up with witnesses to attend court when required.
  • Sending reminders and follow-ups.
  • Replying to third-party demands.
  • Conducting negotiations, including organizing meetings with various parties.
  • Appointing investigators.
  • Appointing advocates.
  • Following up on court documents.
  • Attending court where necessary.
  • Processing payments to insureds and advocates.
  • Reviewing and closing files where cases have been concluded.

ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor’s Degree/diploma in Law or equivalent.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Diploma In Legal Practice as an added advantage

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in the insurance industry with 2 years in recoveries.

SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

  • Good questioning, negotiating, influencing, and communication skills.
  • Initiative and the ability to use the claims philosophy effectively.
  • Experience in determining when to deal with a matter on a compromise basis or when a defense is more likely to be successful.
  • Ability to make decisions quickly and confidently.
  • Good computer skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of internal systems.
  • Team player with high customer centricity skills.

Strong preference will be given to candidates with the above qualifications, skills, and
experience.
