Spiritual Services Manager

Job summary: 

  • The Spiritual Services Manager will ensure that the spiritual, religious and pastoral needs of patients, visitors and staff are met effectively to the highest standard of care, and within available resources.

Responsibilities

  • To take a lead and be part of the resource for the Tenwek Hospital in meeting the pastoral and spiritual needs of patients, relatives and staff. This will involve supporting those who are very distressed and in critical situations.

  • Cardiothoracic surgery is a highly specialized field that requires skilled medical professionals with a high level of commitment and willingness to go the extra mile to give their utmost to ensure the best treatment outcomes. A cardiothoracic  medical officer plays a vital role in assisting with thorough patient evaluation, investigation, admission, assisting procedures, cardiac critical care, post-operative patient care, and follow-ups of cardiothoracic surgical patients.

Responsibilities

  • Pre-operative assessment: As a medical officer in cardiothoracic surgery, you will be responsible for conducting a comprehensive pre-operative assessment of the patient’s medical history, physical exam, and diagnostic tests, and ruling out any underlying conditions that may impact the surgery and post-operative outcomes in consultation with cardiothoracic surgery fellows and consultants.
  • Surgical assistance/procedures: Under appropriate supervision, you are expected to place invasive hemodynamic monitoring lines, like, arterial lines, central venous lines, endotracheal intubation, epidural lines, tube thoracostomy, pericardiocentesis…. During the surgical procedure, you will also work alongside the cardiothoracic surgeon, and cardiothoracic fellow assisting with surgical procedures such as opening the chest, placing drains, and suturing.
  • Post-operative care: with adequate on-job training and appropriate backup, you will be responsible for monitoring the patient’s recovery and progress, hemodynamic monitoring, inotrope titration, bedside echocardiographic assessment, fluid management, initiation and conducting of CPR, managing pain and medications, and addressing any complications that may arise.
  • Patient education: As a medical officer in cardiothoracic surgery, you will educate patients and their families about their condition, treatment options, treatment adherence, and post-operative care instructions and follow-up.
  • Collaborating with healthcare professionals: You will work closely with other healthcare professionals, including nurses, anesthesiologists, physiotherapists, colleagues from other departments, and respiratory therapists, to ensure the best possible care for our patients.

  • Inventory officers are responsible for evaluating suppliers, products, and services, negotiating contracts, and ensuring that approved purchases are cost-efficient and of high quality.

Responsibilities

  • Set policy and guidelines for delivering cost effective procurement processes for the hospital and manage the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of procurements for the hospital.
  • Ensure adherence to procurement procedures and standards by all the user departments through creating awareness on the processes to be followed.
  • Ensure availability of quality goods and services ordered and prompt delivery of the same to the users through timely processing of purchase requisitions, LPO approvals and dispatch of the LPO’s to suppliers.
  • Manage supplier relationships through maintaining good communication and timely processing of their payments with assistance from the accounts department for mutual benefit of the hospital and suppliers.
  • Advise management on the internal controls to be applied in procurement of goods and services to the hospital to enhance efficiency.
  • Perform all procurement and contracting activities including supplier prequalification, tender management and supplier negotiations.
  • Implement procurement strategies to ensure continuous supply of goods and services to the hospital while ensuring that the hospital gets value for money.
  • Ensure that the supply chain function all the way from sourcing, ordering, receiving and storage of goods is well functional and meets the requirements of the hospital.
  • Organize and arrange for disposal of all hospital obsolete assets and ensure that the disposal process is done as per the procurement and disposal guidelines.
  • Oversee stock takes within the hospital to ensure proper inventory management and also safety of all the hospitals assets.
  • Supervise and train staff in the department to enhance work efficiency.
