Laboratory Technologist (3 Positions)

Overall Purpose
Technically reporting to laboratory technologist in charge, the laboratory technologists will be responsible for the smooth running of laboratory services in the IFO 1& 2 hospital. He/she will also ensure accurate processing and timely dissemination of lab results.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate day-to-day operations to ensure quality laboratory services are delivered to beneficiaries.
- Provide medical laboratory diagnostic and therapeutic information, products and services by establishing specimen preparation procedures, developing and implementing analytical procedures, evaluating laboratory information and reporting results according to protocols.
- Maintain medical laboratory equipment performance by establishing quality standards, developing operations, quality and troubleshooting procedures, certifying instrument performance, arranging equipment replacement, service, and repair.
- Maintain medical laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed supplies, placing and expediting orders for supplies, verifying receipt of supplies.
- Maintain medical laboratory productivity by monitoring workload of functional areas, identifying peak and slack periods, making operational adjustment.
- Maintain quality results by participating in quality assurance process, performing proficiency surveys, reviewing quality control and quality assurance programs, making adjustments in policy and procedures, generating reports and maintaining records.
- Maintain medical laboratory information system by identifying information needs and problems, recommending improvements, establishing priorities, testing and writing & reviewing SoPs.
- Implement new programs, tests, methods, instrumentation and procedures by investigating alternatives, preparing proposals, developing and performing parallel testing and monitoring progress.
- Maintain regular contact with clients suffering from various diseases to monitor their progress and response to medications by doing baseline investigations.
- Organize and conduct blood drive periodically.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree/Higher Diploma /Diploma in Medical Laboratory Science.
- At least two (2)’ years practical relevant work experience as a Laboratory Technologist.
- Valid and current registration with Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologist board (KMLTTB).
Knowledge, skills and languages
- At least 2 years working in a busy hospital set up in laboratory department.
- Strong leadership, team building, conflict resolution and ability to deliver the Society’s strategic objectives.
- Demonstrated proficiency and computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, database, email and utilization of the internet.
- Should be a team player and culturally sensitive.
- Strong communication skills: oral, written and presentation skills.
Health Information Systems Officer (2 Positions)

Overall Purpose
Technically reporting to health services coordinator, the health information system officer will be responsible for providing leadership for the data management and improving data quality and ensure the same is reported into the County and National HIS while collecting information, to optimize the use of that data for decision-making.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan and design practices, processes and procedures that allow for effective management of people, resources and processes to optimize overall organizational performance.
- Assessing and controlling the center’s exposure to risks of various kinds; ability to apply this knowledge appropriately to diverse situations.
- Develop new, better or significantly different ideas, methods, solutions or initiatives that result in improvement of the settlement’s performance and meeting objectives, results and organization’s commitments.
- Determine data to be collected based on program and organizational needs.

- Extensive knowledge and competency in using the latest KHIS tools, uploading the data and generating reports.
- Demonstrable ability to undertake programming and/or analysis in one or more of: SPSS, STATA, MySQL, share point technologies.
Knowledge, skills and languages
- Extensive knowledge of data management soft wares.
- Possesses excellent mathematical abilities and organizational skills.
- Good communication and presentation skills in both English and Kiswahili, including ability to develop reports and prepare statistical information.
- Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural skills including the ability to build collaborative relationships with sensitivity to cultural, ethnic and political issues.

Fire Safety & Security Officer

Overall Purpose
Technically reporting to Dadaab Refugee Operation Lead, The Fire Safety and Security Officer will be involved in the smooth running of the Fire Safety and Security department within the Dadaab Refugee Operation. In addition, s/he will be responsible for ensuring, conducting continuous security risk assessments and mitigating the security risks from time to time in the operational context.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct continuous security risk analysis and implement mitigation measures for the identified risks.
- Conduct security briefings to staff, volunteers, visiting staff, Partners of National Society as directed by the Head of Operation.
- Update the program security plan and disseminate to all the staff, volunteers and incentives.
- Create, develop and implement refugee program fire safety rescue, security plans for all high-risk work areas within Dadaab Refugee Operations (DRO).
- Develop and document emergency response procedures, in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate disaster response and crises management activities, and ensure that fire control methods are promptly implemented.
- Develop and conduct training programs for the security teams, emergency response teams, ensuring that their continuous training needs are met.
- Ascertain that all fire and rescue equipment is maintained properly, and are operational at all times.
- Lead and monitor the daily operations of security, emergency response functions, such as deployment of security guards, access control procedures are implemented in all the KRCS premises within DRO, fire safety drills and exercises are done periodically.
- Interpret and enforce provisions of fire prevention and fire safety laws and Security regulation and perform periodic inspections of new and existing buildings and structures.
- Identify fire hazards, recommend corrective actions, and perform follow-up inspections to ensure that corrective measures are taken.
- Check installed fire protection systems, and check them for compliance with applicable fire prevention and safety ordinance requirements.
- Develop security contingency plans for Dadaab Refugee Operations and disseminate to the staff, volunteers and incentives.
Minimum Qualifications
- Degree in security /Safety management or its equivalent
- At least four years’ experience in field of safety and security operations
- At least two years’ experience on safety and security operations preferably in the humanitarian sector .
Knowledge, skills and languages
- Demonstrable experience in preparing Safety and Security Standard operating procedures and Safety and Security Management Plans.
- Proven knowledge in occupational Health and Safety.
- Ability to investigate, write clear and concise reports.
- Basic First aid and fire safety training.
- Fluency in written and spoken English and Kiswahili is essential.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
- Creative and analytical thinker.
- Must be highly organized and able to work with other teams.

Clinical Officer

Overall Purpose
Technically reporting to Clinical Officer In-Charge, the Clinical Officer’s overall objective will be to provide primary health care services to patients at the health posts and hospital in Ifo 1& 2 camp Dadaab.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Clinical assessment and prescription of treatment for all patients according to the MOH guidelines.
- Refer chronic cases to the various special clinics.
- Conducts and attend ward rounds.
- Accurately document treatment in patients files.
- Carry out minor surgical procedures.
- Attend to medical emergencies in the hospital and health posts.
- Participate in camp health assessments/surveys.
- Training of medical staff in CME sessions.
- Ensure smooth running of the health post, providing supervision, support and guidance to all staff working at the health post.
- Ensure a high quality of care in management of patients.
- Ensure that universal precautions and infection prevention guidelines are adhered to.
- Compile and submit weekly reports.
Minimum Qualifications
- Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery from a recognized educational institution
- Registered with the Clinical Officers Council and has a current practicing license
- At least 2 years’ experience working in a complex, multifaceted medical establishment.

- Experience of working in a refugee camp environment is an added advantage
