Inspire Youth in STEM Programme at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT)

Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) has partnered with Focus Lense Ltd to develop a eight (8) week programme aimed at guiding fresh high school graduates discover and explore their potential, interests, passions and hidden talents.

The programme known as Inspire Youth in STEM, is expected to assist prospective university students reinvent themselves while also discovering and developing their interest areas, develop new skills, network, and have a wider perspective.

The curriculum has Five (5) key pillars, which are:
  1. Coding Foundation
  2. Web Development
  3.  Python for Data Science
  4. Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning
  5. KUCCPS Portal, Career Guidance and Mentorship

The Program starts from 10th February – 4th April 2025.

  • Responsive design for mobile-friendly websites

  • Backend Development
  • Introduction to server-side programming with Python (Flask/Django)
  • Working with databases (SQL basics)
  • Creating a simple web application

Week 5: 

  • Mobile App Development
  • Introduction to mobile app development with Flutter
  • Building a basic mobile app
  • Testing and debugging

Week 6: 

  • Introduction to Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • What is AI and how does it work?
  • Basics of machine learning and neural networks
  • Building a simple AI model using Python

Week 7: 

  • AI Applications & Cloud Computing
  • Real-world applications of AI (e.g., chatbots, image recognition)
  • Introduction to cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud)
  • Deploying your AI model to the cloud

Week 8:

  • Capstone Project & Career Preparation
  • Build a real-world project combining software development and AI
  • Resume building and interview preparation
  • Networking tips and career opportunities in tech
