Discuss the Reproductive Systems. There are two main reproductive systems: the male reproductive system and the female reproductive system.

The Male Reproductive Systems
The male reproductive system contains the external genitals (the penis, testes and the scrotum) and internal parts, including the prostate gland, vas deferens and urethra.
The penis is the male organ for sexual intercourse. The urethra serves as an outlet for urine and semen out of your body.
Scrotum. This is the skin bag like structure that hangs loosely behind the penis that houses the testicles.
The epididymis is a long-coiled tube found in each testicle that plays a role in transports and preserves the sperm produced in the testicles.
The urethra is the tube-like structure that plays two critical roles in excretion and reproduction. It carries urine from the bladder outside of your body. The penis also ejaculates semen during sexual activity when the man reaches orgasm.
The prostate plays a function to increase the amount of fluid in the ejaculate, which helps the sperm grow.

The Female Reproductive Systems
Vagina is a flexible, fibromuscular tubular structure extending from the vulvar vestibule to the uterine cervix. The vagina serves three purposes:
- It’s where the penis is inserted during sexual intercourse.
- It’s the birth canal/opening through which a baby leaves during childbirth.
- It’s the route for menstrual cycle blood.
The uterus is where a fetus develops during gestation, and the organ provides mechanical protection and support for the developing offspring. The uterus also plays a critical role during birth as the contractions its muscular wall are responsible for pushing the fetus out of the uterus during childbirth.
Fallopian tubes provide a passageway for oocytes to travel from the ovaries into the uterine cavity. The other major function is, it is where fertilization happens.
The ovaries are the ovum-producing organs. The ovaries release an egg that is fertilized by sperms to form the fetus. Ovaries also secrete both estrogen which is responsible for the appearance of secondary sex characteristics of females and Progesterone which functions with estrogen by promoting menstrual cycle changes in the endometrium.

Menstrual Cycle and Pregnancy: The female reproductive system undergoes a monthly cycle called the menstrual cycle, during which an egg is released from the ovary and the uterine lining thickens in preparation for potential pregnancy. If fertilization occurs, the fertilized egg implants in the uterine lining and develops into a fetus. If fertilization does not occur, the uterine lining sheds during menstruation, and the cycle repeats.
