Company Veterinarian At Isinya Feeds
If the answer to all the above is yes, we’re looking for you to fill a role at Isinya Chicks, our Chicken Breeding Division. The Company Veterinarian At Isinya Feeds role involves a combination of post-mortem examinations, site visits, sampling, diagnostics and data interpretation to investigate health, performance and welfare issues for our clients.
We’re an integrated poultry company operating from Kajiado County and our operations consist of Breeder Farms, Hatchery, Rearing Farms, Commercial Layer Farm and a feed mill. Our extensive and varied client base includes smaller and medium independent producers of broilers and commercial layers.
A successful applicant will follow a training and mentorship programme supervised by experienced poultry veterinarians, and the role includes but not limited to:
- Post-mortem examinations
- Interpretation of serological, molecular diagnostic and production data
- On-farm training to understand management requirements of different production systems
- Shadowing mentors on site and customer visits, followed by supported independent visits
- Continuous professional development and training courses on diagnostics and poultry health
Remuneration would be competitive and includes accommodation and salary progression would be rapid based on performance above expectation in the role.
Who you are
You possess a recognised degree Bachelor of Veterinary Science and are a registered vet with the Kenyan Veterinary Board as a Veterinarian with at least five years working experience. You are highly ambitious, with a passion and in-depth understanding of growing and an infectious enthusiasm for learning. You are hands on, with a proactive approach and will not be a clock-watcher.
You do enjoy being accountable and taking ownership of your tasks. You are able to thrive on being able to deliver against demanding deadlines and you will have an understanding of poultry disease and management, excellent communication and interpersonal skills and fluency in English.
You will be involved with ensuring that all regulatory requirements for Isinya Feeds Limited are met, including:
- Supervising laboratory operations.
- Management of laboratory system efficiently and effectively to the required standards.
- Developing and implementing laboratory standard operating procedures and approving appropriate changes.
- Supervising laboratory personnel for effective delivery of services.
- Collaborating with other departments that complement the laboratory for overall achievement of company goals and objectives.
- Signing out all results including double checking all opinions and interpretations made on the report.
Breeding, Rearing and Production farms
- Managing staff and other resources to deliver healthy birds as per breed standards.
- Collaborating with senior management in addressing any gaps that may undermine optimal delivery of required results.
- Preparing and presenting farm performance reports in line with set standards.
Hatchery
- Foster good working relationships with Director of Veterinary Services and other stakeholders for information gathering on requirements and implementation of required standards.
- To work jointly with hatchery manager in management and coordination of hatchery processes and activities.
- Sampling chicks for quality checks before dispatching to our customers.
- Ensuring timely renewal of hatchery licenses.
Research
- Keeping in touch with various sources of poultry information to update yourself and Company on emerging trends; sharing information through coaching, training and seminars.
