Content Lead – People Daily at Mediamax Network Limited
Mediamax Network Limited is a national multi-media broadcaster on digital print (People Daily), radios
(Milele FM, Kameme FM, Msenangu, Emoo, Meru FM, Mayian), TVs (K24 TV and Kameme TV), online and social networks. Mediamax Network Ltd generates content primarily in Kiswahili and English with several radio stations broadcasting in vernacular.
We are hiring a Content Lead – People Daily
The Role:
The candidate will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the People Daily Digital newsroom and working with section heads to assign and execute prime content for publication within set deadlines.
Lead a strong team of reporters by assigning stories, reviewing and editing content, and ensuring that the newsroom operates smoothly and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Managing and leading a team of journalists working at high velocity.
- Planning and assigning news coverage.
- Conducting research and fact-checking.
- Editing and revising news stories.
- Collaborating with other departments.
- Ensuring timely publication.
Required skills and abilities:
- Excellent leadership, editing and communication skills, strong news judgment and editorial vision to identify and prioritize relevant and engaging stories.
- Have strong people and performance management skills with a proven track record.
- Thorough knowledge of local and global news trends.
- Possess the confidence to play a key role in a major company.
Education and Experience:
- Demonstrable knowledge of media ethics and laws, especially defamation and libel.
- Ability to work in a high-octane digital news production environment with tight deadlines.
- Have a wide news source base and networks.
- Demonstrate ability to lead a highly sophisticated and diverse news team for digital audiences.
- Postgraduate training in journalism, communication or media studies or English with an experience of at least 10 years in newsroom operations.
- Ability to work with Creative Suite -InDesign will be an added advantage.
