Job Description: Quantity Surveyor / Estimator

Core Purpose:

The Quantity Surveyor / Estimator at Fortis Precast Solutions will manage the financial aspects of building projects by providing accurate material takeoffs, detailed bills of quantities (BQ), and competitive quotations. The role ensures projects are both profitable for the company and affordable for clients.

Key Skills & Responsibilities

Bill of Quantities preparation: Accurately compiling itemized lists of materials, labor, and costs for building projects.
Material takeoff: Extracting quantities directly from architectural and structural drawings.
Drawing analysis: Reading and interpreting architectural, structural, and sometimes MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) plans.
Cost estimation: Preparing quotations that reflect realistic market prices for materials and labor.
Construction knowledge: Understanding building methods, structural systems, and local codes.
Software proficiency: Familiarity with tools like AutoCAD, Revit, ArchiCAD, or specialized QS software (e.g., CostX, PlanSwift, Buildsoft).
Reporting & documentation: Presenting clear, professional BOQ documents for client quotations.

Required Skills

Technical Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of measurement rules (e.g., NRM2, SMM7) and proficiency in software such as MS Excel, AutoCAD, and specialized takeoff tools like Bluebeam or CostX.
Numerical & Analytical Skills:Strong mathematical ability for precise calculations and critical thinking to identify potential cost risks in drawings.
Communication:Ability to explain complex technical data to non-technical stakeholders and negotiate with vendors.
Detail Orientation:Precision in measurement to avoid errors like double-counting or omitting material items.
