Background
The Green Belt Movement (GBM) is implementing the Mau Water Tower – Reforestation Project with support from Agence française de développement(AFD). The project seeks to conserve and restore the degraded Dundori, North Nandi and Tinderet forests, which are part of the greater Mau Forest Complex, while improving the livelihoods of surrounding communities. Through a watershed-based reforestation approach, the project aims to rehabilitate 300 hectares of degraded forest, promote climate-smart agriculture, strengthen alternative livelihoods, and support advocacy for sustainable natural resource management. To achieve these objectives, GBM is recruiting Extension Officers to be based in Tindiret and North Nandi.

Purpose of the Job
The Extension Officers at Green Belt Movement (GBM) will support the day-to-day implementation of project activities in their assigned area, ensuring effective delivery of GBM’s watershed-based approach, community mobilization, monitoring, reporting, and stakeholder engagement for successful project outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA), Sustainable Land Management (SLM) and gender mainstreaming activities in line with project objectives.
- Support community-based initiatives including kitchen gardens, soil conservation, water harvesting, and fodder cultivation for farmers.
- Strengthen gender and women empowerment components in project activities.
- Collect and document success stories, video/photo stories, and timely progress reports.
- Provide technical support and capacity building to community beneficiaries and Green Volunteers (GVs).
- Monitor, track, and report on project performance, ensuring compliance with GBM and donor requirements.
- Build and sustain partnerships with stakeholders to advance GBM’s vision and mission.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
- Represent GBM in community and stakeholder forums as delegated.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Environmental Studies, Natural Resource Management, or a related field.
- At least one year of proven experience as an Extension Officer in community-based or natural resource management projects.
- Strong skills in community mobilization, advocacy, data collection, and reporting.
- Good communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work independently and with diverse community groups.
Duty Station: Tindiret or North Nandi, Nandi County
