For our operations in Ibero Kenya Limited, we are looking for an experienced and dynamic Coffee Trader to join our team in Nairobi and will report directly to the Regional COO.
The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in sourcing, trading, and managing relationships within the coffee supply chain. The role demands strong quality knowledge, exceptional negotiation skills, and a passion for the coffee industry. The successful candidate will also demonstrate expertise in risk management to mitigate market, price, and operational risks.
Your key responsibilities
- Source high-quality Arabica coffees from farmers, cooperatives, and suppliers in Kenya.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with producers, exporters, and international buyers.
- Analyze market trends, coffee quality, and pricing to develop trading strategies that deliver profitability.
- Identify and mitigate risks in pricing and supply chain disruptions.
- Develop and implement risk management strategies, including hedging and contract diversification.
- Manage contracts, logistics, and shipping to ensure smooth delivery of coffee to international markets.
- Collaborate with the finance team to monitor budgets, payments, and pricing structures.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coffee certifications, sustainability standards, and global market trends.
- Represent the company at industry events, trade shows, and cupping competitions.
Your profile
- A minimum of 3–5 years of experience in coffee trading.
- A Bachelor’s Degree in agribusiness, commerce, or a related field is preferred.
- Proven experience with Arabica coffee, including sourcing and quality assessment.
- Knowledge of the Kenyan coffee supply chain is desirable.
- Expertise in coffee cupping and sensory analysis.
- Demonstrated experience in risk management, including hedging and market risk analysis.
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
- Proficiency in financial analysis, budgeting, and risk assessment tools.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Fluency in English is required; knowledge of Swahili or other regional languages is a plus.
